Mexican athlete Guadalupe González , silver winner of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, successfully defended her title in the women's 20km race walk, winning gold at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in Taicang, China .
“I'm very happy with this result, mainly because I'm in China, where my main rivals come from,” said the athlete, who is also set to participate in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, in Barranquilla, Colombia.
González is part of the national delegation comprised of 20 athletes, including Horacio Nava , who we will see at the men's 20km race walk.
For her part, athlete Alegna Aryday González Muñoz, of the Mexican Navy, also took home the gold after her performance in the U20 women’s 10km race walk.
According to Mexico's Ministry of the Navy, González Muñóz has “stood out for her strength and tenacity in the 10km test,” for which she was awarded the Navy's Military Sports Medal, 2nd Class, in 2017 after winning first place at the Pan American Cup and the Pan American Championship that same year.
