President López Obrador announced that the federal government is investigating the purchase of other fertilizer plants during the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto, as the operations could have been tarnished by irregularities.

During a press conference, the President revealed that the Legislative branch launched an investigation and that the federal government is auditing many plants, including the ones located in Pajaritos, Veracruz and Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.

Yesterday, the President explained that authorities are evaluating a petrochemical plant in Camargo, Chihuahua and another plant in Baja California Sur.

López Obrador explained that years ago, the Mexican government owned a company named Fertimex but after it was privatized by Carlos Salinas, the company was dismantled. Years later, the Peña Nieto administration decided to purchase many plants that were privatized by the former President, Carlos Salinas.

The President also revealed that although the Fertinal plants are not active, its 3,500 workers are receiving a salary.
