Today, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a proposal for an initiative to cancel the education reform that will be sent to Congress for its analysis.

“A fulfilled promised teachers of Mexico,” said the President, after designating the initiative during a press conference at Palacio Nacional.

López Obrador promised that teachers will never be disrespected again, “the Mexican teachers, our teachers, as it happened recently when they offended the teachers, that's over.”

“There's a good relationship with teachers and unions,” he said.

At the same time, he presented the outline of a general education plan. He signed the initiative to cancel “the wrongly-called education reform,” repeal and substitute the current legal framework for a new one, where the right to education is established.

With this new plan, public education will be free and of quality in every level.

“It's a plan with an application process based on allocating more resources and not rejecting students from schools and that every young student who wants to enter high-school and university has the opportunity to study,” he explained.

In the face of the lack of spots in school and resources, 100 new public universities will be built and high-school students will be granted scholarships, that is, 300,000 scholarships for low-income students.
