UNESCO calls on authorities to investigate killing of Mexican journalist

Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova demanded a thorough investigation on the murder of Mexican journalist Jacinto Hernández Torres in Texas.

“I call on the authorities to investigate this killing and its motives so that those responsible for it be brought to trial,” Ms. Bokova said.

The body of Jacinto Hernández, a contributor to La Estrella Fort Worth Spanish-language weekly, was found in the backyard of a house in Garland, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area on June 13.

“I condemn the murder of Jacinto Hernández Torres,” Ms. Bokova added.
