Popocatépetl registers 156 long-period earthquakes

According to the report of the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), during the last 24 hours the monitoring system of Popocatépetl volcano registered 156 long-period earthquakes (LPs) and 6 volcanic explosions.

75 minutes of low-amplitude harmonic tremor were also recorded.

Incandescence over the crater was observed yesterday night.

At the time of this report, a continuous emission of steam and gas was observed heading towards the southeast.

On April 2, the destruction of the lava dome formed in January was observed.

An inner crater of 325 meters of diameter and about 50 meters deep was formed instead.

Small landslides on the east side of the inner crater were observed.

Several fumaroles were also observed in the north, south and east sides of the volcano.
