Three girls found dead in a house in the La Colina neighborhood were killed by their own mother, who beat them unconscious with a hammer and then strangled them with a scarf, according to the Attorney General of Michoacán, José Martín Godoy Castro.
According to Godoy Castro, Martha Teresita Chávez, mother of the three, five and seven-year-old, was detained by her family members and she confessed to the multiple murder.
Godoy Castro expressed that the woman allegedly killed her daughters in order to keep them from facing suffering when they grew up.
According to Martha Teresita's declaration, she lured the girls to the bedroom where she killed them, and after beating them she used a scarf to strangle them.
The woman, who according to the Attorney General was fully aware of what she had done, was a schoolteacher with a seemingly normal life, according to her family.
Hours after her arrest, the house where the girls were killed was attacked by a so far unknown arsonist. The authorities are investigating the incident.
Another girl, just under 12-year of age, was stabbed and strangled to death in the municipality of Tarímbaro, according to Godoy Castro, who said that her disappearance was reported Sunday night by her relatives.
Her body was found the next morning.
The Attorney General added that there is no evidence of the intervention of the organized crime groups in that case.
