In Mexico 56.6% think the government should increase border controls against illegal migration, while only one in 10 believes security should not be strengthened.
The National Migration Survey, conducted by the Applied Research and Opinion Division of the Institute of Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), revealed that 40.4% of Mexicans think that the rights of foreigners are “somehow” respected.
A total of 1,200 people aged over 15 participated in the survey, that also revealed that 64% of the participants think that the United States discriminates Mexicans a lot, while only 30.5% think that the votes of Mexicans abroad strengthen democracy.
Also, 45% of the participants said that they would like to live abroad, with the United States as their main desired destination, followed by Canada, France, Spain, Brazil, Germany and Argentina.
Regarding foreigners living in Mexico, 45.4% of the participants said that they contribute to economy, while 24.6% said that they take jobs away from Mexicans, 14.4% said that they contribute to insecurity and 20.5% said they should pay more taxes than Mexicans.
