The government of the Mexican state of Sonora launched an epidemiological alert for the next few weeks due to the increase in dengue cases, which could reach up to 5,000.

At a press conference, the authorities announced the hiring of medical corps, as well as a fumigation and clean-up program, and the acquisition of medicine.

Governor Claudia Pavlovich Arellano announced the program accompanied by the head of the state Department of Health, Gilberto Ungson Beltrán, during an act at the General State Hospital.

The Governor added that she requested the aid of the federal authorities in the most vulnerable areas.

Ungson Beltrán added that the municipalities in greater danger are Hermosillo, Guaymas, Empalme, Cajeme, and Etchojoa.

He explained that at the end of this rainy season a massive spraying campaign will begin in urban and rural areas, as well as the training doctors and people in dealing with the symptoms of the disease.
