Seven Mexicans killed in Egypt: Local media

Local media, quoting sources from the Egyptian government, suggest that at least seven Mexicans are among the 12 people killed in an attack by security forces against tourists mistakenly believed to be terrorists.

According to state news portal Al-Ahram, the Egyptian Attorney General confirmed that seven of the 12 dead are Mexican and that some of the bodies remain in the area of the incident, while investigations are done.

Al-Ahram also reports that the tourist agency responsible for the ill-fated trip said that at least four Egyptians were killed and two more were injured.

The prosecutor pointed out that the attack left the victims unrecognizable, and added that two of the wounded are officers of the Egyptian security forces that fired on the tourists.

According to Al-Ahram, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Khaled Ramy, pointed out that at least seven of the ten wounded are Mexicans, and one of them has dual U.S.-Mexican nationality. They are in the Dar Al-Fouad Hospital in the outskirts of Cairo.

The head of public relations of the hospital reported that none of the injured, six women and one man, are in critical condition.

"The majority has fractures in the arms or legs and first or second degree burns," he said.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Streets, another local media, put the number of killed Mexicans in eight.

The Mexican government has only confirmed the death of two compatriots and reported that there are six wounded Mexicans.
