El Tri falls 17 positions in FIFA Rankings

The Mexico's national soccer team fell from 23rd to 40th position in July's edition of the FIFA rankings with 697 points.

This is El Tri's worst position since the FIFA rankings began in 1993.

"The basic logic of these calculations is simple: any team that does well in world football wins points which enable it to climb the world ranking," reads FIFA's explanation of the rankings.
