The Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón recently wrote an official letter for Jorge Guerrero , one of the actors who appeared in his critically acclaimed movie “Roma,” to be granted a U.S. visa after his application was denied three times last year.

The letter was aimed at giving Guerrero an opportunity to attend the red carpet at the Oscars , which will be held on February 24 . The Mexican film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards .

Guerrero, who played Cleo’s boyfriend Fermín , considers that it has all been due to a misunderstanding in administrative procedures.

“I am very respectful of their regulations,” he stressed. “And if someone in the embassy or a cultural manager finds out that I participated in a movie such as ‘Roma,’ and that one of the best movie directors in the world [Alfonso Cuarón] wrote a letter for the consular officer, it will be easy for them to see that I just want to support my colleagues.”

He explained that the letter written by Cuarón was one of the documents he had to present before migration authorities. “As is well known, one has to prove their financial capacity, account for their personal property and their profession.”

“I hope that this issue can be solved soon. If I don’t get to go to the Academy Awards, I’ll be very happy either way, I mean, we are talking about 10 nominations! It’s not something that happens every year,” he expressed.

He assured to be in the best disposition to apply for a visa again.

Besides working in “Roma,” Guerrero is also known for his role as cadet Tello in the Netflix bio-series of Luis Miguel .
