The new headquartes of Mexico’s Ministry of Energy (SENER) is a building that is currently occupied by Mexican Petroleums (PEMEX)’s Gas and Basic Petrochemicals located on Usumacinta street near the city’s hotel and commercial zone, according to the governor-elect Adán Augusto López Hernández , who stressed that the federal agency would begin operating in early December .

In an interview, he explained that all further details regarding the change of headquarters would be disclosed by the incoming Minister of Energy, Rocío Nahle García , who visited the state of Tabasco on November 10 to revise available buildings.

“The Ministry will now be here, in a building owned by PEMEX’s Gas and Basic Petrochemicals, on Usumacinta street. There are actually two buildings, but she [Nahle García] will probably disclose more details soon,” he indicated.

The governor-elect claimed that the arrival of SENER to the state would bring more investment to the state and that the ministry staff arriving in early December would be welcomed. Furthermore, he assured that both he and the mayor of Villahermosa, Evaristo Hernández Cruz , would facilitate the transition and settlement of the members from the federal agency. López Hernández stated that there would be a period of oil production reactivation in the state and that a good example of it was the project for the construction of a new oil refinery in the Dos Bocas Port , representing an investment of over 8 billion dollars in three years. Each year, he added, there would be an investment of 2.6 billion dollars , approximately, which will add to the 1.96 billion dollars that will be used for gas production in Macuspana .

During her last visit, Nahle claimed that “before December 1, the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy will be moved, along with more than 100 workers, including directors and under secretaries who will arrive at a first stage.”

She added that directors and under secretaries would have to move to Tabasco, while most of the union workers would remain in Mexico City at one of the ministry’s buildings, though the government body would stop renting its current headquarters. “We are looking into it. We recently presented a compact structure before the Ministry of Finance and out budget was approved not long after. We are establishing the work positions needed, but they are mostly technical and directive” she assured.
