This year, Mexico City received the World Design Capital ( WDC ) title becoming the sixth in the world to receive this acknowledgment and the very first city from the Americas.

“Mexico City has a powerful story to share on the world stage, as a model for other megacities around the world using design to tackle the challenges of urbanization and ensure a more liveable city,” reads .

Mexico City was chosen as it is continuously seeking to transform lives through design by regenerating low-income areas around the city through a series of health, communications, and security programs such as the bike-sharing project and the development of urban gardens, parks, and playgrounds.

The WDC is a city promotion project by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design ( Icsid ) to recognize and award design accomplishments made by cities around the world.
