Photographer Víctor Medina Gorosave , born in Mexicali, Baja California , received the National Award of Mexico at the Sony World Photography Awards 2019 for his "Fire Landscape" image.
The results of the competition in its 10 categories and the national awards, carried out in support of local photographic communities in 62 countries , were announced by the World Photography Organization and Sony .
The photo was selected as the Best Individual Image taken by a photographer of Mexican nationality .
His image shows a group of firefighters trying to extinguish a fire at a recycling plant in his hometown.
Víctor Medina has a broad experience with several photograhic themes, ranging from sports and politics to documentaries. Furthermore, he worked as a photojournalist in several newspapers and later began to put his work on display.
The Mexican citizen, who currently teaches photojournalism, will receive Sony's latest digital photography equipment and will travel to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony on April 17 .
His winning piece will be shown at the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition in London from April 18 to May 6 . Likewise, the photo will be featured in the 2019 Prizes book , a press release informed.
The finalists of the Professional and Student competitions will be announced on March 26; the winners of the Professional category will be revealed on April 17.
