Mexican sculptor, painter, and photographer Irene Zundel will present her gallery Más allá de lo aparente” (More Than Meets the Eye) at the Cer Modern Arts Center in Ankara, Turkey, during July and August. The exposition has already brought together more than 25,000 visitors while touring through Venice, Madrid, and Berlin.

According to a press release, the expo began at the 57th Venice Biennale and later continued at the Carlos de Amberes Foundation in Madrid and Mexico’s Cultural Center at the Embassy of Mexico in Berlin. The gallery was inaugurated on July 9 at the Cer Modern Arts Center, where it will remain until August 12.

The artist has over 20 years of experience and her new expo presents 12 three-dimensional sculptures projected on plexiglass, as well as lacquered wood on acrylic over canvas and a digital piece which includes video mapping.

Her work is meant to show the core topics of her artistic trajectory: The first part of the expo shows a thin line between reality and appearances, the second shows a special bond between her pieces and the audience, and the third part is related to her fascination with abstraction.

Más allá de lo aparente,” will allow audiences to get acquainted with the artist’s fascinating ideas through her works of art. “I express the world through introspection, specially by using color, because it expresses my mood and state of mind, this is why each of the pieces represent who I am and where I come from,” the artist expressed.

Irene Zundel started out as a graphic designer and was later drawn to sculpture, working with wax, silver, bronze, and plexiglass, through which she has found a new means of expression.

She has participated in both standalone and collective expos in Mexico, Canada, the United States, Spain, and Italy. She has been honored with the Italia Per L’Arte award and her pieces are currently being sold through art galleries in Mexico, the USA, and Europe.
