IMSS diagnoses 311 new diabetes cases every day

The Mexican Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano de Seguridad Social abbreviated IMSS ) diagnoses up to 311 new diabetes cases daily, while there are 4 million beneficiaries currently living with diabetes, a disease that causes 38,400 deaths per year and is the leading cause of non-traumatic amputations , with more than 4,500 per year.

Thus, on May 4 , the IMSS implemented a preventive model for chronic diseases that aims to prevent the cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and diabetes among other chronic diseases.

The model will consist of the deployment of medical brigades in work centers to detect early risks. Currently, there is a pilot program in Nuevo León , where more than 250,000 people suffer from diabetes.

Additionally, in the IMSS Digital app , the Online CHKT Calculator was implemented. The app sets a chronic disease risk level by calculating factors such as weight, height, and habits.

From October 18 to date, 50,309 beneficiaries have calculated their chronic disease risk factors through this app and 13,325 users were identified with high risk of diabetes and were channeled to a specialist.
