As part of their global sustainability goals for 2025 , Grupo Modelo announced the launch of a pilot program for its packaging system, introducing plastic-free six-pack rings , under its global Corona brand .

Through a statement, the company informed that the rings will be made with vegetable-based materials such as waste generated through industrial food and beverage processes, as well as biodegradable fibers.

It explained that the objective of the project is to address the need to reduce the environmental impact of plastic materials in beaches, which would make Corona the first global beer brand to launch such an initiative.

In this regard, Pablo Ruiz Galindo, the multinational brewer’s Communications Director , commented that "this project demonstrates Grupo Modelo's commitment to the environment, sustainability, and responsible consumption of our natural resources."

Meanwhile, Clarissa Pantoja, director of Corona Mexico , said that beaches are an important part of the company and to face the problem, they have looked for solutions that have the potential of generating a great impact in the industry, such as rings of natural fibers in the six pack , which can become a new standard to reduce the use of plastic.

The brewing group will carry out this project in cooperation with the Parley for the Oceans association , which shares the same mission of protecting the oceans.

"Corona is a great ally in our war against marine plastic pollution and we share the objective of eliminating plastic forever, because we cannot allow for the toxic impact it is causing to continue," said Cyrill Gutsch, founding CEO of the association .
