Approximately five tons of solid waste is brought into the Sumidero Canyon every day. 90% is PET and other types of plastics. Even microwaves and cars have been found at the bottom of the river. According to the UNESCO, if the contamination continues, by 2025 the damage will be irreversible for this natural wonder located in the state of Chiapas, which by the way, is the deepest natural canyon in Mexico.

During this year's Campus Party, which was held in Guadalajara, the video platform Twitch presented its collaboration with the Mexican association Gaming Green, specialized in ecology and video games. The purpose: to raise donations for the cleaning of the Sumidero Canyon.

The economic goal that is expected to be collected is divided into three possible scenarios. If they raise USD$30.000, they will be used to clean the banks of the river in all their extension; with USD$130.000, the banks and the complete surface of the river will be cleaned; and with USD$320.000, the complete river will be cleaned, including extraction of waste from the bottom.

To achieve the goals, a campaign is underway at Twitch, which began on July 17 and ends on July 31. You can find it on the Gaming Green channel. Donations can be made directly through this link:
