Mexico's Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported 160,175 new jobs created in September, and a total of 742,369 total jobs created this year so far, the highest number of new employment registrations in all of the institute's history.
The IMSS, Mexico's public healthcare, pension and social security system for workers, has a total of 18,626,402 registered workers.
The IMSS said in a press release that the sectors with the most jobs created are the agricultural, transportation and communications sectors, which together make 12.7% of total jobs created.
In light of this information, President Enrique Peña Nieto said at a public meeting in Guadalajara that since taking office, 2,330,000 formal jobs have been created in the country so far, which is more than the total number of jobs created during the last president's entire term.
In addition, he praised the fact that Mexico moved up 6 points from 57 to 51 on the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Index.
