Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto held an open meeting on Wednesday with representatives of various Evangelical, Christian and non-evangelical Christian churches where he reiterated that Mexico is a secular country.
At the meeting, Peña Nieto and the 33 representatives discussed several different matters, such as security, the economy, structural reforms, different initiatives backed by the president for building a society for human rights, among other matters.
In an official statement released after the meeting, the President's staff said that “the President reiterated Mexico's secular nature, as well as his Administration's respect for freedom of religion as guaranteed by the Constitution.”
