Cuernavaca – Criminal Investigation Police Agents have arrested the priest Omar Aguilar Vega on child molestation charges.

The State Attorney's General Office reported that a judge ordered the arrest of the priest after the Public Prosecutor's Office reported that in March 2009, Aguilar summoned his congregation to clean the church, in preparations of the town festivities. Then, “at around 8:00 pm that day, Omar took the minor to the church choir where he then beat and sexually assaulted him. He then threatened him not to say anything; however, the boy's parents eventually found out about the incident and filed a criminal complaint, which resulted in the launching of an official investigation.” reports the Attorney General.

“The priest was arrested in the Juitepec's San Gaspar neighborhood as per the arrest warrant issued by a Mexico City judge” the Attorney General continued.

The victim's family told investigators that they took so long to report the crime because they weren't aware of the assault until May 2014, when at around 5:35 pm, their son attempted to commit suicide.

The victim's family stopped him from hanging himself and rushed him to the general hospital in Cuautla, they said on the local radio station Línea Caliente.

The victim finally confessed that he wanted to commit suicide becuase he was sexually assaulted, which is when his parents proceeded to file the criminal complaint.

To make matters worse, Aguilar was transferred to the Tepalcingo parish in an apparent cover up attempt by the Cuernavaca bishop, Ramón Castro Castro, who's also facing legal action over the attempted cover up of two separate and unrelated sexual assault incidents in the state of Campeche.

In August, Castro Castro was notified of the charges filed against him for failing to do anything after an adolescent told him directly that he had been sexually assaulted.
