Thursday night rains caused a series of problems in five municipalities of the state of Morelos, according to the authorities.

Houses and streets were flooded by overgrown rivers in Cuernavaca, Zapata, Temixco, Xochitepec and Jiutepec.

The authorities also reported that eight neighborhoods and 50 houses ended under the water in Jiutepec.

The crisis so far has left no people wounded or killed and those whose homes were affected by the floods were aided by the municipal and state Civil Protection authorities.

Javier Bermúdez Alarcón, head of the state Civil Protection authority, called the population to "avoid throwing garbage in order to keep the drains clean and avoid floods."

According to the authorities, around 50% of the floods in the area are caused by garbage clogging the drains.
