The ministries of the Interior and Health reported that medical personnel sent to the town of Nochixtlán, Oaxaca, was detained against their will by the locals on Saturday night, even with an agreement to allow them to conduct their labor.
"When the medical personnel tried to leave at 19:30 they were stopped by several people, who threatened them and detained them well after 22:30" Saturday, according to a report.
On July 14, the authorities and representatives of the locals agreed to have a medical team working in the area, mostly to work on the victims of a clash in the area last June 19, when eight people were killed.
The medical team began operations at noon and they were supposed to end six hours later, in order to return to Oaxaca and be back in Nochixtlán at 9:00 a.m. But, the locals decided against it.
