The monopoly of Pemex gas stations has come to an end: the first three franchises with a brand different than Pemex started operating yesterday.
In Campeche and Mérida a group of businessmen opened two gas stations under the name “La Gas”, while in Mexico City a Hidrosina franchise started operating yesterday at the intersection of Insurgentes and Reforma avenues.
Emilio Loret de Mola, spokesman of La Gas, said that the company formed an alliance with Corpo Gas, Grupo Enerkom, Hidrosina, LodemoRed and Corporativo Ges and that they plan to open 25 service stations more in the next 60 days.
Paul Karam, chairman of Hidrosina, said that they plan to open 20 gas stations in Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Morelos. Both brands will offer loyalty programs.
Pemex, that sold fuel without competition for 24 years, had 11,281 service stations as of March 31, 2016.
