José Refugio Rodríguez, attorney of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, said that El Chapo's family is concerned about the statements made by Rosa Isela Guzmán Ortiz, alleged daughter of the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, because they could lead to reprisals.
On Friday the supposed daughter of "El Chapo" said to the British newspaper The Guardian that he was betrayed by the federal government and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.
On Monday El Chapo's lawyer said in an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva that on Thursday night he was contacted by a relative of Guzmán to ask him to make a statement on behalf of El Chapo's sisters and the rest of his family.
The relative said that "the family does not know this person as a daughter of Joaquín Guzmán and that it distanced itself from the statements made by her.”
He added that they fear it could lead to conflict and that Guzmán's family does not have any problems in Sinaloa.
The lawyer added that Rosa Isela's statements are reckless and baseless.
He also said that Rosa Isela contacted him and asked him to represent her as she may be accused of money laundering. However, the lawyer rejected the proposal as he had to remain impartial.
