Rommel Pacheco won gold in the 3-meter springboard competition at the FINA Diving World Cup 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
“This gold medal is for Mexico and for Yucatán. Yes, we could”, the Mexican diver tweeted.
When Pacheco received the medal, he sang the national anthem a cappella. Mexico's anthem was not played because of the suspension imposed by FINA on the Mexican Swimming Federation.
Pacheco, who finished 504.50 points, beat Yona Knight from Jamaica and Kristian Ipsen from the United States.
This is the second medal won by Pacheco in the competition. The first one was bronze in synchronized diving with Jahir Ocampo.
