Pope Francis met with workers and businessmen in Ciudad Juárez after visiting inmates of the Cefereso 3 prison.
The pontiff said that one of the biggest scourges to which young people are exposed is the lack of sustainable jobs, which leads to poverty and marginalization, in which drug trafficking and violence thrive.
“We can not abandon the present and future for Mexico,” Pope Francis said.
The pope added that it is unfortunate that maximizing earnings has become the ruling principle of personal relations and that people are at the service of capital flows.
He said that “God will judge those who enslave others” and that “capital flows should not determine the life of people”.
“The best investment is in people and families,” Pope Francis said.
Francis urged employers to think of the type of Mexico they want to leave for their children.
"Do you want to leave them the memory of exploitation, of insufficient pay, of workplace harassment?" he asked. And he added, "What air will they breath? An air tainted by corruption, violence, insecurity and suspicion, or on the contrary an air capable of generating alternatives, renewal and change?"
He also invited the attendees to "dream with a Mexico in which parents have time to play with their children."
