Mexico's Ministry of Public Education (SEP) issued new rules to ease school registration for migrant chidren.
As of September 1, not having documents will not be an obstacle for migrant children to receive education in Mexico. If the children do not have a birth certificate, the parents can use other documents to register them, such as a naturalization letter, adoption certificate, Mexican or foreign passport, consular certification, immigration document, personal identity card, national ID or fill out the registration form with the details of the students.
According to the 2010 census, 597,000 children and teenagers born in the United States were living in Mexico. For the 2013-2014 school cycle, the Ministry of Education admitted 307,125 children born abroad. Of them, 289,727 were born in the United States.
