The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has moved up nine places in the ranking , becoming one of the two best universities in Ibero-America, surpassing Spanish universities.

On Twitter, the official account of the UNAM shared a link to the ranking, where it is stated that the UNAM is the oldest University in North America.

According to the QS Global World Ranking, the Mexican University is currently ranked 113 – the best place it has achieved since QS began its rankings in 2011.

Surpassed only by the Buenos Aires University in Argentina, the UNAM got an overall score of 56.8. However, the UNAM ranking up nine places was due to the rise in the Employer Reputation category – measuring the opinion of over 45,000 employers – where it scored 87.1

Moreover, in the Academic Reputation category – based on the opinion of over 83,000 scholars – it reached a score of 89.3, ranking in place 41 worldwide.

The list, published yesterday by QS Quacquarelli Symonds , comprises the best 1,000 universities in the world and includes 14 Mexican institutions .

The site also highlights it's the only University in Mexico to have three Nobel Laureates among its former students: Alfonso García Robles (Peace), Octavio Paz (Literature) and Mario Molina (Chemistry).
