The federal governmen t will grant scholarships for MXN $240,000 – i.e. MXN $20,000 monthly – during a year in a single delivery to the 544 athletes that are participating in the Lima, Peru 2019 Pan American Games , resources that will be obtained from the sale of the house of the Chinese-Mexican businessman Zhenli Ye Gon .

In his morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador revealed that an additional bonus of MXN $40,000 will be given to the athletes who obtained a gold medal, MXN $35,000 for silver , and MXN $25,000 for bronze .

“Everything we can give directly is safer and more efficient. Intermediation is too messed up,” said the President about this measure being a way to evade intermediation of the National Sports Federations .

The Mexican delegation has won 76 medals in the Lima, Peru 2019 Pan American Games : 21 gold, 18 silver, and 37 bronze , which has already exceeded what the head of the National Sports Commission, Ana Guevara, had forecast initially (she expected 19 gold medals).

“We will also consider supporting, though through another source, the coaches and we will do the same with Paralympic (athletes ),” added López Obrador.

“I convene investors, entrepreneurs, who participate in foundations, especially businessmen with social dimension to participate in this auction because this house is valued at almost MXN $100 million , but that is the minimum value, there is always an aggregate in the auction, we want and we have as a goal to reach the MXN $150 million .”

The director of the SAE, Ricardo Rodríguez explained that there are some ambassadors interested in the property, located in Lomas de Chapultepec , Mexico City, who have visited the house, as well as some neighbors of the area and groups of investors.
