President Enrique Peña Nieto and the first lady, Angélica Rivera, recently filed for divorce, according to Salvador García Soto’s column published in EL UNIVERSAL.

An anonymous source informed the journalist that the couple would formalize “a separation that they have been planning for a long time.”

The presidential couple was last seen at the ceremony of Mexico’s Independence on September 15 at the National Palace.

There have been moments in President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration that have led the Mexican people to believe that the couple had marital problems.
