Directed by Michael Chaves, the movie will adapt the ancient Mexican legend of the Weeping Woman

Directed by Michael Chaves, who was also chosen to direct “The Conjuring 3,” the upcoming movie “The Curse of La Llorona” will adapt the centuries-old Mexican legend about a heartbroken woman who haunts children at night.

Featuring Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Venezuelan Patricia Velásquez, the film is based on the famous character of Mexican folklore: La llorona (The Weeping Woman).

In an interview with EFE last July, Patricia Velásquez stated: “I grew up with that story in Mexico. I have always thought that the story should reach the big screen, but in the right way. When they came to me with the project, I liked the script because it was very respectful of Mexican culture.”

Latin audiences in the United States are very excited about this project, which they have already deemed to be their own ‘Black Panther’,” claimed the artist referring to the MARVEL superhero’s success among African American audiences in the United States.

The movie will come out in theaters on April 2019.
