Mexico manufactures six of the world's best-selling cars

Last year, 86.05 million cars and light trucks were sold, 2.05 million more than in 2016, representing a 2.4% increase over the previous year, according to an analysis carried out by JATO Dynamics , a global supplier of automotive business intelligence based in Uxbridge , London .

The analysis was calculated considering the top 52 countries in terms of car sales .

Out of the top 20 best-selling models , six are manufactured in Mexico : Volkswagen Golf, Jetta , and Tiguan , Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Silverado , and Dodge RAM pick up .

The world’s best-selling cars in 2017 were the Ford F Series in the first place with sales amounted to 1,073,285 units , representing a 9% increase compared to the previous year, followed by Toyota Corolla with global sales at 924,118 units , and Volkswagen Golf in the third place with 867,145 units which is manufactured at the Volkswagen assembly plant in Puebla .

"2017 results portray that despite events such as Brexit in the United Kingdom which caused uncertainty in Europe , the automotive market continues to grow. It will be interesting to see how emerging markets become relevant, as India might overtake Germany as the fourth largest market for vehicle sales while Latin America is showing a positive trend," assured Felipe Muñoz , Global Automotive Analyst for JATO Dynamics .

Following the Volkswagen Golf, the best-selling cars were Nissan X Trail , Honda Civic , Toyota RAV 4 , and Honda CR-V .

The eighth was Volkswagen Tiguan , manufactured in Puebla, with 695,383 units sold in 2017.

Followed by Honda HR-V , manufactured in Mexico with 689,798 units sold, 4% less than 2016.

In tenth place was Volkswagen Passat , followed by General Motors Chevrolet Silverado manufactured in their assembly plant in Silao , Guanajuato , with 656,106 units .

Ford Focus

ranks twelfth followed by Ford Escape , and Fiat Chrysler RAM pickup manufactured in Saltillo , Coahuila ranks fourteenth.

Followed by Hyundai Elantra , Toyota Camry , Hyundai Tucson , and in eighteenth place, Volkswagen's Jetta manufactured in Puebla with 205,149 units .
