It is common for Mexican families to buy carnitas by the kilo and gather to eat them on Sundays

Carnitas are one of the most beloved and delicious Mexican dishes out there. Carnitas are made by simmering pork in its fat until tender. The meat is then chopped and topped with chopped coriander, onion, lemon juice, and salsa.

This traditional dish originated in Michoacán and foodies claim the best carnitas are made there.

The cooking process is a long one. First, you have to boil the meat and throw some garlic cloves and onion in there. Them the pork is fried in lard, milk, and orange juice.
