The Government of the United Kingdom has considered that Karime Macías , wife for former Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte , meets all the criteria to request asylum on the grounds of political persecution, according to Macías's attorney.

Through a statement, attorney Ricardo Sánchez Reyes Retana confirmed that British authorities have approved to review the political asylum application submitted by Karime Macías for herself and her three children.

Moreover, the attorney explained that he has filed an appeal against the arrest warrant issued by a local jurisdiction judge in Veracruz , currently pending a resolution.

The document issued by Macias's attorney states that she and her children have been victims of harassment and espionage in England by the Government of Veracruz, led by Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares .

“Neither Mr. Javier Duarte Ochoa or his wife have, or have had, a property in the city of Houston, Texas, to the extent that the lawsuit filed by Governor Yunes Linares against [Duarte] in that U.S. city was discarded by the legal authorities of that country for being inadmissible,” said the attorney.

Sánches Reyes Retana has stated that Javier Duarte and his family have been victims of a “disproportionate political violence” which keeps them “hostages” from the election process currently taking place in Mexico.

This Wednesday, Governor Yunes Linares and Mexico's Office of the Prosecutor General (PGR) bickered over the extradition request of Karime Macías, a request which the Veracruz Government claimed is currently in process.
