The Attorney General’s Office extradited José Sánchez Villalobos, better known as the “Lord of the Tunnels,” to the U.S.

José Sánchez Villalobos was identified as one of El Chapo’s main financial operators, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The “Lord of the Tunnels” is wanted by a California court, where he is dubbed as the leader of a drug trafficking organization.

The charges are linked to a 2012 federal indictment, which charges Sánchez Villalobos with 9 counts of conspiracy to distribute and import marijuana and four counts of building, financing, and operating tunnels for the purpose of smuggling drugs into the United States: “According to court documents, defendant Jose Sanchez-Villalobos is alleged to be the highest-ranking member of a drug trafficking organization responsible for constructing and utilizing cross-border tunnels to import marijuana into the United States.”

The maximum penalty for these crimes is life in prison.

The infamous criminal is the man responsible for the construction and operations of at least two narco-tunnels found in Tijuana, Baja California.
