El Chapo's lawyer denies claims that he ordered murder of judge

José Refugio Rodríguez, one of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán's lawyers, denies claims that his client was involved in the murder of Vicente Antonio Bermúdez Zacarías, the judge who handled several legal challenges aimed at preventing his extradition to the U.S.

In an interview with Carlos Loret de Mola on the Mexican television show Despierta, the lawyer for the leader of the Sinaloa cartel brushed off the accusations, calling them pure “yellow journalism.”

Refugio Rodríguez disapproved of the judge's murder and said that this type of action “causes indignation in our society.”

The lawyer said he had no contact with the judge, but he knew him as being an honest man.

Yesterday, the civil appeals judge, Vicente Antonio Bermúdez Zacarías, was shot at point-blank at around 7:30 am., while jogging outside of his home.
