An intense rain caused by the remnants of hurricane Marty in interaction with other weather phenomena has left 35,000 victims in nine municipalities in the south of the state of Sonora.
In preliminary figures the state Unit of Civil Protection reported that there are victims in the municipalities of Bacum (1,238), Oomapasc (5,279), Empalme (2,397), Etchojoa (4,492), Guaymas (9,381), Huatabampo (4,000), Navojoa (5,482), Benito Juárez (1,641) and San Ignacio Río Muerto (1,090).
Governor Claudia Pavlovich took a tour of several of the affected municipalities, including Guaymas, and called on people living in high-risk areas to evacuate their residences and avoid exposure to landslides or electrical accidents.
After an evaluation of the impact of Marty's remnants the state authorities will ask the federal government for support and declare the emergency in the affected communities, expressed Pavlovich.
"It will be as soon as possible, as well as the delivery of support for those affected by the past rains," she said.
