The spokesperson of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) in Oaxaca, Benito Vázquez, confirmed that their leader Ruben Nuñez suffers from chikungunya, a disease caused by mosquito bites.
Nuñez was hospitalized in Mexico City due to chikungunya symptoms, which turned out to be true.
However, is was reported afterwards that the leader of the dissident teachers in Oaxaca had high blood pressure problems and malnutrition.
Vázquez stated that Ruben Nuñez was discharged Sunday morning and that he had symptoms of chikungunya in an interview with EL UNIVERSAL.
"It is not true that he suffers from high blood pressure and malnutrition. The only thing that we were told was that he has this disease, the chikungunya," he said.
He added that it is not yet known if the leader of the CNTE will resume his activities as planned on Monday. "I think that he is going to rest for a few days," Vazquez said.
