In two years, Jorge Israel Meade González, a former member of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) went from being a poor alderman to a prosperous politician.
After finishing his tenure as alderman in Cuernavaca (2009-2012), Meade said he did not own a house, a car or financial investments, but two years later he bought a property in an exclusive area of Cuernavaca that costs almost 4.2 million pesos (US$267,133).
The property was registered in the name of his wife, Bianca Ileana García Vázquez, according to the property deed and the sale contract certified by the notary number two in Cuernavaca.
The Quinta Margarita, as the house is known, has 3,778 square meters (40,666 square feet). According to the neighbors, the property was sold last year.
Meade, former campaign manager of the PRD-PT candidate for mayor of Cuernavaca, Jorge Messeguer Guillén, said that he does not own the residence.
"It belongs to my wife, who is the daughter of a retired airline pilot. She inherited the land from her father."
However, the deed says the house was purchased and not acquired through inheritance.
Meade now belongs to the group close to Rodrigo Gayoso, current state leader of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and adoptive son of Morelos governor Graco Ramírez Garrido Abreu.
