English filmmaker Ridley Scott is teaming up with studio Fox to adapt the novel 'The Cartel' by Don Winsolow based on the life of the Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel was published just a month before the July 12 announcement that Guzmán had escaped for the second time in 14 years.

Scott will direct the film, based on a screenplay by Shane Salerno, who will also produce.
