Google launched early this June the site “ Google Trends Searches on Mexico's Election ” (in Spanish) in order to help users find information generated every day on the subject of Mexico's 2018 General Election .
Since the first of June, the site offers a screencap of the information gathered from real-time search data.
Moreover, users can explore how people are searching for information on candidates as well as the different challenges Mexico faces.
It also helps to shed light on the interests of citizens per category. For instance, employment is one of the most searched words, on average, in the north of the country, while education is one of the trending topics in the center and south of Mexico.
The company stated that this is an initiative linked to Google's mission statement : "To organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."
“It also shows our commitment to offer products which address the main concerns of voters during elections: get involved, investigate, and be informed,” the company said in a statement.
Google added that thanks to the interest of citizens and Internet, this year's elections will be the best documented in the country's history.
“We're thrilled and proud to contribute in all citizens playing a more active and informed role in Mexico's democracy,” they concluded.
