Alfonso Cuarón’s latest film

has now been selected among nine moves to compete for the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards .

The Academy issued a press release to announce the nine movies that would move on to the second round of voting for the Awards nominees.

Roma, by Cuarón

, will compete against Cold War, by Pawel Pawlikowski; The Guilty, by Gustav Möller; Never Look Away, by Florian Henckel von Donnercmarck, and Shoplifters, by Hirokazu Kore-eda , among others.

A few days ago, the film was also nominated for three Golden Globe awards : one for Best Picture in a Foreign Language , one for Best Screenplay , and Alfonso Cuarón himself was nominated for Best Director .
