The NFL will return to Mexico City next year for a game at the Estadio Azteca , where unsafe field recently forced the league to cancel a game that was supposed to be played on Monday.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the NFL after a meeting between the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodel l and Mexican President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador .

and the President-elect met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , where they reached an agreement to continue the relationship between the Mexican government and the NFL .

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray congratulated both Goodell and López Obrador for reaching an agreement: “The NFL announced that it's returning to Mexico in 2019. That's good news, which took place thanks to the President-elect' s timely intervention, who met with the NFL's commissioner , Roger Goodell , this morning. Congratulations to both for reaching a good agreement”.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams were scheduled to play at the Estadio Azteca on Monday but last week the game was relocated to California after it was determined that the field did not meet NFL standards.

The NFL also returned USD $14.5 million the Mexican Ministry of Tourism paid for the match to be played in the country, nevertheless, Mexico won't make the expected profits, as the NFL match attracts thousands on national and international tourists who spend an average of 5 days in Mexico City.

The date for the 2019 game will be announced next year.
