Mexican filmmaker Gabriel Retes, known for his extensive filmography, has passed away at 73. 

Retes was one of the most prominent and talented Mexican filmmakers. His 1977 film Paper Flowers entered the 28th Berlin International Film Festival; his 1979 film Broken Flag entered the 11th Moscow International Film Festival, and his 1999 film A Sweet Scent of Death entered the 21st Moscow International Film Festival. 

After his death was confirmed, Mexico’s Culture Ministry remembered the talented filmmaker:
