Male students wear skirts to protest sexual harassment

On September 21 , Jimena and her classmates were at school, in the 32 Colegio de Bachilleres Oaxaca , in Cuilápam de Guerrero , when the alleged sexual harassment took place.

She narrated the story on Facebook :

“I was taking classes, as I do every day, and when I was on my way to my last class, and then we noticed that my teacher wasn't in the classroom and that it was locked. We were waiting for her to arrive, we were outside the classroom, and I was among classmates and friends.

As you know, the uniform requires wearing a skirt; I was talking with my friends when one of them whispered, “the guy over there is taking photos of you”, and gesturing, we didn't know what was going on.”

It was the supervisor, Reynaldo , who was allegedly taking pictures under Jimena's skirt. They were angry and went to see the principal to issue a complaint but there were ignored. They all organized that day: “We'll see if they ignore us,” and they agreed on a peculiar demonstration.

On September 24, at 7 am, the demonstration began. They yelled “We're going to raise our voices!”, the went into the schoolyard and near the school entrance. They had made signs, and then proceeded to yell:

“ With skirt or pants, respect me, pervert! ,” “The skirt is a clothing item that should be worn without fea r,” “ Stop sexual harassment ,” and “ Take pictures of my testicles. ”

After that, the boys wore skirts, and the girls were wearing jeans.

The demonstration lasted for over two hours. The mothers were upset as the school's director was nowhere to be seen. According to one of them, the director had given the supervisor his phone back, even though the evidence was there.

Meanwhile, the supervisor has been temporarily suspended and he's being investigated. Although the protest calmed down, there seem to be more sexual harassment cases at the school, but the students are going to investigate and file complaints.
