Mexican actor Diego Luna and movie director Alfonso Cuarón
will be nominated for the Critics’ Choice Awards this year.
Luna, who stars in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico , has been nominated for the Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series category , while Roma, by Alfonso Cuarón will compete for the Best Picture award against movies such as The Favourite and Black Panther .
The Favourite is at the top of the list with 14 nominations
, followed by Black Panther (12), while Roma only got eight nominations including best picture, director, and actress, for Yalitza Aparicio .
Barely one day before the nominees were announced, the Mexican picture had already conquered the hearts of film critics in Los Angeles for the Best Picture and Best Cinematography categories.

Now, the Broadcast Film Critics’ Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) have announced the nominees.
The Favourite, by greek director Yorgos Lanthimos , will compete in the best picture, director, actress, and comedy actress categories and will receive two mentions in the best supporting actress category for Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz .
Among TV productions, there is a tie between three productions with five nominations each: The Americans, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, and Escape at Dannemora .

Among TV channels and streaming platforms, there is a tie between HBO and Netflix, with 20 nominations each .
The Critics’ Choice Awards will take place on January 13th, broadcast through CW Network .
