Annual inflation in Mexico decreases to 4.55%

CDMX.- During the fourth month of the year, the general rate of prices showed a decrease thanks to lower prices in goods and services such as electricity , due to the implementation of lower fees during the summer, domestic LP gas , and tourist service packages , as well as air transport , according to the most recent data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) .

On the past month, the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) showed a decrease at a monthly rate of 0.34% , as a result of which the annual inflation was reduced to 4.55% , its lowest level since December 2016 .

Other goods and services that followed the decrease in the month of April were: Eggs, bananas, lemon, green tomato, beer, and carrots .

By contrast, among the generic products with prices that tended to rise above inflation levels were: Low octane gasoline, housing, restaurants, avocado, chicken, loncherías (sandwich stores) and eateries, toothpaste, corn tortillas, city buses and sanitary pads .

Under the core price index , merchandise prices increased 0.33% and service prices decreased at a monthly rate of 0.01% .

The non-core price index components showed a monthly reduction in their prices: with the prices of farm products decreasing 0.49% while energy products decreased by 2.43% as a result of the recent implementation of lower energy fees for warm seasons in several cities across the country.
