The government of the state of Guerrero announced the launch of a national promotion campaign through radio and television of the main tourist destinations of the state, on account of a slight decrease of 1,4% in hotel occupancy in Acapulco in relation to the same period last year.

Governor Héctor Astudillo Flores and the Minister of Tourism, Ernesto Rodríguez Escalona, presented a balance of the influx of tourist in the main destinations of the entity: Acapulco, Taxco, and Ixtapa.

Rodríguez Escalona said that despite the sinkhole in the Paso Exprés the forecast for this holiday period is maintained in a million visitors, 70% of hotel occupancy and an economic revenue of MXN$4 billion.

However, Acapulco had a decrease in the arrival of visitors.

He explained that in the same period of the previous year the port had a hotel occupancy of 69,7%, while this weekend decreased to 68,3%, a decrease of 1,4%.

While Ixtapa, in 2016 had a hotel occupancy of 76,7%, and this weekend registered 80,7%, an increase of four points. Meanwhile, Taxco had 42,7% occupancy in 2016 and this year 48 points, 5,3% more.

The state Minister emphasized that despite the sinkhole, no cancellations were registered in hotel reservations and he added that the start of the holiday season can not be regarded as bad.
