Thanks to her grandmother's recipe, Mexico's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, took home the so-called Avocado Trophy today during the first annual guacamole challenge, which was organized by Mexico's Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food, in an event aimed at promoting Mexican cuisine and agricultural industry.

Ruiz Massieu's winning recipe included serrano hot peppers, green onion, garlic, pasilla smoked peppers, pork rinds and ground grasshoppers.

According to event organizers, the competition, in which several high-profile Mexican officials participated, was also a time to celebrate and pay homage to Mexico's field workers and the country's most prized product, that's sometimes referred to as “green gold”, the avocado.
